What decides the outcome of a fire is not whether a material burns but how fast flame spreads. Every minute gained is evacuation and intervention time.
The target resistance period is defined at the outset, and the required dry film thickness and consumption calculated from it.
On timber structure and cladding, impregnation and surface film can be used together or separately.
Any paint or varnish over the system is chosen so as not to interfere with its intumescent behaviour.
